The induction of J Dilla exhibit into the
Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History & Culture
Maureen Yancey donated her late son’s Akai MIDI Production Center 3000 Limited Edition (MPC) and his custom-made Minimoog Voyager synthesizer to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Both the MPC 3000 and synthesizer are on display at the new museum located in the nations capital Washington, DC on the inaugural floor in the permanent music exhibition entitled "Musical Crossroads" at the new National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Inside the Smithsonian's long-awaited National Museum Of African-American History and Culture, you can find two very important artifacts special to hip-hop's legacy.
The J Dilla collection, donated by J Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey, includes his custom-made Minamoog Voyager synthesizer, used to create his famous and distinctive beats, and his Akai MIDI Production Center 3000 Limited Edition, a rare piece of equipment, one of only 2,000 units released in 2000 and used as a drum machine. These and other related items used during the late 1990s and early 2000s helped J Dilla leave a mark on hip-hip history.
